Obituary of Dennis Victor Hughes
Dennis Victor Hughes, 74, of Gilbert, AZ, passed away unexpectedly on September 24, 2023. Born on July 23, 1949, in Eau Claire, WI, Dennis was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle.
Dennis was a popular and gregarious man who was known for his one-of-a-kind personality. He had a knack for making people laugh with his legendary one-liners. He was a steady-eddy, always routine, consistent, and mild-mannered. Dennis was a friend to all and had a kind heart that touched the lives of many.
In his educational journey, Dennis attended Eau Claire North High School, graduating with the Class of 1967. He furthered his education earning an Associates Degree at the District One Technical Institute.
Dennis proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force from 1968 to 1972. His military associations shaped his character and instilled in him a strong sense of duty, honor, and loyalty.
Following his military service, Dennis dedicated himself to a career in mail services at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He worked diligently from 1983 to 2006, ensuring the smooth operation of mail services for the university community.
Outside of work, Dennis had a variety of hobbies that brought him joy. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 39 in Gilbert, AZ. He enjoyed spending summers with his wife Marcia and friends in Lake Holcombe, WI, embracing the beauty of nature. Dennis was a passionate fan of the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers and Gunsmoke westerns. He also cherished the time he spent fishing with his friend Bob and watching his grandsons play football and basketball.
A celebration of Dennis's life is planned for October 28th at the American Legion Post 39 in Gilbert, AZ. It will be an opportunity for family, friends, and loved ones to come together, share memories, and honor Dennis's life. Additionally, a Celebration of Life will be scheduled for the spring of 2024 in Eau Claire, WI, allowing those who knew Dennis to pay their respects and celebrate his remarkable journey.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Marcia, his sons Garrett and Darin Hughes, his grandsons Mason and Braylen Hughes, his brother Bruce Hughes (Sonja), his sister in-law Brenda McCarty Lee (Jonathan), his nieces Heather Hughes, Holly Brunner (Brian) and Angeline McCarty Lee. He was preceded in death by his father, Chester Hughes, and his mother, Irene (Ginder) Hughes.
Dennis will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His infectious laughter, steady presence, and kind heart will forever hold a special place in the hearts of his family and friends.
