



Obituary of Alfonso Chavez Jr.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our brother Alfonso Chavez Jr.
on June 6th, 2023 at the age of 76.
He is preceded in death by our parents Alfonso Armendariz Chavez and Rosa Alvarado Chavez
and brother Manuel Chavez.
He is survived by his sons Antony Chavez, Nicolas Chavez and Alfonso Chavez, three
grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is survived by his brothers Raul (Arsenia)
Chavez, Gustavo (Martha) Chavez, sister Dora (Tom+) Anaya and brother David (Patsy)
Chavez.
Alfonso graduated from Mesa High School in 1966 and attended Mesa Community College.
Alfonso was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. For his service he earned a Bronze Star and a
Purple Heart. He served honorably in the 187th Infantry,101 Airborne, achieving the rank
of Specialist 4.
Alfonso's creative and artistic talent was recognized when his design was chosen as the
official emblem adopted by the City of Mesa Police Department in 1979.
Alfonso enjoyed collecting model airplanes and cars and would often visit the Pima Air
Museum in Tucson, Arizona.
Our brother dedicated his life to protect and serve our country and local community in
the United States Army, as a Los Angeles police officer and Fireman and later as a police
officer for the City of Mesa Police Department.
