Obituary of John Stephenson Fathauer

John, 64, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2023. He was born in Decatur, Illinois to Helen Eva Stephenson Fathauer and George Henry Fathauer on October 14, 1958.

As a child, John enjoyed building model cars and airplanes. In high school playing saxophone was his chief passion, and he had a lifelong love of jazz. He received a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Arizona State University in Tempe. Upon graduation, he worked for Rockwell International in Plano, Texas. For many years John owned and operated the Practice Pad music store in downtown Mesa, which carried the widest selection of harps in Arizona. Later in life he enjoyed collecting coins, fixing up and showing his 1959 Thunderbird, and playing piano.

John is survived by his sister Gerry L. Fathauer (Jeff Hutchinson) and brothers George A. (Susi) Fathauer, and Robert W. Fathauer.

A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on May 20 at the Practice Pad, 711 E. Main St., Mesa. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Therapeutic Harp Foundation (therapeuticharp.org).
