Obituary of Gordon Hatch Morris

Gordon Hatch Morris (90) of Tempe, Arizona passed away peacefully in Mesa, Maricopa County, Arizona after a long and healthy life on March 5, 2022. His wife of 68 years, Sandra Long Reed Morris, was at his side, holding his hand. Born to parents, Carl F. Morris, and Lucille Hatch Morris, on October 2, 1931, in their home on W. 15th St. in Safford Arizona, Gordon was a true Arizonan. After graduating from Mesa High School in 1949, he served a 2-year mission in the Eastern States Mission. He and Sandra were sealed in marriage, September 4th, 1953, in the Arizona Mesa Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Gordon served in many capacities in the Church as a Missionary, Bishop, High Counselor, Temple worker, and a faithful Home Teacher. In his early years, Gordon grew up working on the family farm and dairy. After his mission and marriage, he worked as Manager of various departments in the US Dept. of Agriculture (USDA) in Maricopa County, AZ in Yuma County, AZ, and in Imperial Valley, CA. Later, he was Manager for Imperial Cotton Products, managing 4 cotton gins. After a move back to Arizona, he worked as a realtor and broker in Tempe and then started landscaping with his son, Greg. Gordon is survived by his wife Sandra Morris, and brothers Keith J. Morris (Sandra), and Dan R. Morris (Katie). He and Sandra are honored by a great posterity; David Gordon Morris (deceased), Gregory Warren Morris (Calleen), Cynthia Morris Smith (Marten), 15 grandchildren, and 35 greatgrandchildren. Gordon is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Wayne Carl, Melvin Kay, Ned Devon, John Michael Morris, sister Phyllis Morris Johnson, son David Gordon Morris, granddaughter Jessica Rae Morris, and great-granddaughters, Lillian Michelle Morris and Oakley Rae Morris. Funeral services are planned for Saturday, March 19th 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 1881 E. Del Rio Drive, Tempe Arizona, 85282. A viewing will be held prior to the service at 9:30 a.m. at the same location. Interment will be at the Mesa City Cemetery.
