Obituary of Ophelia Mendivil Hermosillo

Ophelia Mendivil Hermosillo, 87, passed away peacefully on early Sunday morning, 07/24/22. She was born on September 7, 1934, in Mesa, Arizona and was the youngest of five children. Ophelia was preceded in death by husband Rodolfo "Rudy" Hermosillo, son Mark Andrew Hermosillo, her parents Jesus and Mary Mendivil and three brothers Robert Mendivil, Al Mendivil and Edward Mendivil. She is survived by her sister Lottie Dominguez, daughters AnnMarie, Teresa (Karl Horne) and many nieces and nephews. Ophelia attended Queen of Peace Elementary School and graduated from Mesa High School in 1953. She began working for the City of Mesa Utilities Customer Service Department in her early twenties. Ophelia had a strong work ethic which would later afford her a position in management. She made many close and dear friends during her years with the department. She always respected her colleagues and strived to create a positive work environment. Ophelia served on the board of Arizona Federal Credit Union for a couple of years and enjoyed her time during this appointment. She retired from the City of Mesa after 34 years of service in 1989. Ophelia was able to enjoy her retirement for over 30 years. She loved being able to care for her great nephews during her early retirement. Ophelia was an Arizona native and a permanent resident of Mesa her entire life. She always believed in supporting her community and causes that made a significant impact to the city. Ophelia enjoyed traveling to many different states with her family throughout the years. Family always came first and was a priority for Ophelia. This was evident in her selflessness, compassion, patience and generosity that she displayed. Ophelia always had a strong belief in her faith, and this was evident in her support of Queen of Peace Catholic Church since she was a small child. She enjoyed cooking her wonderful dishes that created memories for her family and friends. Ophelia always had a special talent to grow beautiful flowers and plants that were always displayed around her home and yard. She was loved by so many relatives, co-workers and friends. She will be greatly missed, and her loving smile will never be forgotten. Services as follows: Sunday, 07/31/22, 5 pm Visitation and 6 pm Rosary at Meldrum's Mortuary, 52 N. Macdonald, Mesa AZ 85201. On Monday, 08/01/22, 10 am Funeral Mass at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 141 N. Macdonald, Mesa, AZ 85201. Burial Service will follow on 08/01/22 at City of Mesa Cemetery, 1212 N.
