Steven L Steele Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Steven L Steele on April 14th, 2023, at the age of 82.

Steve was born November 15th in Mesa, Arizona, to Thomas Loyal and Nathel Lund Steele. He was the oldest child and only son, followed by his sisters, Sharon Tomlinson, Andrea Leavitt, and Debbie Gessell. He was raised in Mesa, Arizona, and graduated from Mesa High School.

As a young man, he was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Eastern States. Upon returning from his mission, he attended and graduated from Brigham Young University. While in Provo, UT, he met and married Lurlene Romney from Colonia Juarez, Mexico. They were sealed in the Mesa, Arizona, temple in 1970. Together they lovingly raised a family of six children: Kimberly Allen (Daniel), Wade Steele (Amy Allen), Brooke Curtis (Tony), Britney Warner (Michael), Dallas Steele (Mary Reimschussel), and Lacee Jones (Ryan). Steve instilled in his children the same strong values and principles that guided his life. Their family was blessed to live in various states, including Utah, California, Texas, and Arizona, where they made many wonderful friends and cherished their experiences along the way. While living in Arizona, his beloved wife, Lurlene, passed away from cancer in Oct of 2002. Steve later married Nancy Altadonna, who was an affectionate companion and wife. They enjoyed many happy years together in Mesa, Arizona, where they developed lasting friendships with their neighbors and ward family. Steve and Nancy served three senior missions for the church in Russia, Hong Kong, and finally, Eastern Europe. They loved serving the people of Russia and China.

Steve was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and found joy in living its precepts and serving diligently. Steve ministered in many capacities throughout his life, including, but not limited to, missionary, Sunday School, Bishop, Stake and Regional Employment Specialist, and most recently, Stake Patriarch. Steve was known for his dedication to his faith and family. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, his six children and their spouses, and 26 grandchildren, as well as Nancy’s children and their families. Steve will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. We take comfort in the knowledge that he has returned to his Heavenly Father and is reunited with his loved ones who have gone before him. A funeral service will be held in his honor at 10 am on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Higley Chapel) at 633 South Higley, Mesa, Arizona, 85206. The interment will be at the Mesa Cemetery at 2 pm.
