Andy Serrano, 75, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 5th at his home in Mesa, Arizona, surrounded by his family of relatives and close personal friends. Andy was preceded in death by his father Carlos, mother Cecilia, older brother Carlos Jr., and his sister Stella. He is survived by nieces and nephews, cousins, close family friends, and his dog Skippy. Andy was born on Valentine's Day February 14, 1947. He was a permanent Arizona resident since birth and attended Queen of Peace Elementary School and Westwood High School in Mesa. He went on to study business at Arizona State University. He learned the savings and loan business and spent many years with First Federal Savings and Loan and then Merabank where he was a Vice-president and branch manager. Later in retirement Andy joined his cousins at Serrano's Mexican Restaurants, assisting with human resources and general operations. Andy loved Arizona and had many lifelong friends and family who shared his heart and sentiment for the southwest. Andy was a people person, warm, kind and easy to engage in conversation. He was a good listener with a sharp sense of humor and quick wit. He enjoyed cooking and antiques and watching PBS channel 8 shows with his dog Skippy. Andy was the keeper of the Serrano Family history and assembled a book and pictures of family genealogy for the reunion of 1999. He was especially proud of his heritage, parents and ancestry. Pictures of family and friends cover the walls of his house. Throughout his life Andy travelled the globe, returning home to share the tales and often funny experiences he had along the way. Andy lived life well, was cherished by many, and will be missed deeply by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held at the Meldrum Mortuary in Mesa on Friday, July 29 at 11:00am, followed by a Celebration of Life at Serrano's Mexican Restaurant in downtown Chandler.
